The focus of this project is to identify plasmodesmal channel proteins (PCPs) and to characterize their structure and function. Plasmodesmata are embedded in the cell walls, making it highly difficult to isolate them intact. We are taking a combination of biochemical and molecular approaches by which plasmodesmal-enriched cell wall fractions are identified by probing a plasmodesmal marker protein that is introduced to the plant cell system.
