On October 20th, 2002, twelve teams from nine schools, including two first-time TRASH participants, ventured to Purnell Hall in Newark to play in the TRASH Mid-Atlantic Junior Bird Tournament, the second half of the "Delaware Duel Tournament Weekend". The field was divided into two brackets, with each team playing a round-robin within their bracket. After the round-robin came three cross-division games against teams of equal standing and then the tournament ended with two games of ladder play.
In the round-robin, Bracket A featured an very structured results. Bracket B wasn't as simple, with both of the bottom two teams having beaten the second place team.
