Greek Terms Glossary


Rush: A formal period in the beginning of each semester when all fraternies hold "rush events"-equivalent to interest meetings.

Pledge/Pledging: A period after a bid is accepted but before initiation. Typically 6 weeks.
** NOTE: AGR DOES NOT PLEDGE-we hold initiation with in 72 hours of offering bids.

Bid: A formal invitation to join a specific Fraternity

Chapter: A local branch of a National Fraternity

Center for Fraternity and Sorority Life: The university office that oversees social fraternities and sororities

FIPG: The policies that govern all Greek social events

IFC: Interfraternity Council, a body composed of representatives of all 15 social fraternities on campus

Chapter Accessment Program (CAP): The Uof Delaware program that ranks all social fraternities and sororites based on campus involvement, grades, fiscal management, chapter programming, and organization. On a scale of GOLD, SILVER, and BRONZE.

Greek Week: A week of friendly competition and bonding with other greek chapters, capped off by Greek Games Day.
