Advisor:

Dr. James Swasey has served as a dedicated Faculty and Chapter Advisor to Beta Upsilon Chapter since December of 1998

James Swasey, faculty advisor to the Beta Upsilon Chapter of Alpha Gamma Rho, has been with the University of Delaware since 1984.  Although he is a "newcomer" to the University of Delaware chapter of AGR he has been close friends with Brothers since his undergraduate days in the 1960's at the University of New Hampshire.

Dr. Swasey, is Professor of Horticulture and Director of the Longwood Graduate Program, a program in which students focus on leadership training and achieve a MS degree in Public Horticulture upon graduation.  He advises the graduate students in their professional studies and academic research.  In addition to this responsibility Swasey coordinates the New Student Colloquium course for first year students in the Department of Plant and Soil Sciences.  This course provides opportunities for the new college student to learn how to be a successful student and prepare for a successful and productive career.  Commencing in Spring 2000, Dr. Swasey will teach a new course, Issues/Concerns in Horticulture, for junior/senior Landscape Horticulture majors.

Swasey enjoys working with students and motivating them to become the most they can be.  He said recently, "students are one of the challenges that make my life interesting.  I thoroughly enjoy working and guiding the AGR brothers because they seem so receptive and appreciative of my guidance."

A message from the 2001 Alumnus Dan Camenga...

Honor; Trust; Positive; Intuitive; Dependable; Enthusiastic..... Mentor, Teacher, Friend.....
When I think of our advisor, these are the words that come to mind.  The U of D chapter of Alpha Gamma Rho is very lucky to have Dr. Swasey in this critical role.  I am particularly proud to call him my AGR advisor and one of my newest Brothers.  Dr. Swasey was one of the first professors I met when visiting U of D and he has proven to be one of my best professors after arriving to U of D.  More than a professor, he constantly proves himself as a mentor and as a friend.  When AGR needed a faculty advisor I knew that he was the person for the position but I had no idea he would prove to be so dedicated to our fraternity.  Because of his motivation and dedication with AGR the Brothers are pleased and honored to welcome him into our family!
Welcome aboard Dr. Swasey!

Sincerely,
Daniel Camenga
