FARM TOURS are coming up in October. A schedule of feedings/cleanings and tours will be coming soon from Joanna Wagner - watch your email and come to the meetings!

AG CARNIVAL is on 20 October. AZ needs to come up with an event to sponsor. Bring your great ideas to the next meeting or email sracuff@udel.edu

PLEDGING lasts for six weeks and should be done by Thanksgiving. Big brothers/sisters will be decided after we get a list of interested pledges. We want to get some publicity aimed towards freshmen - they can't pledge yet, but we want them to know that AZ is here and what we're about. Bring ideas to the next general meeting and we'll work on getting our name out there.

SOCIAL EVENTS are high on everyone's priority list this semester. Some ideas that were suggested at the last meeting: semiformal dinner and/or dance, bowling, football tailgate, hayride, camping. If you have ideas on what we should do as a group, email treid@udel.edu

FACULTY ADVISOR - Dr. Keil suggested that we find a second chapter advisor (we're supposed to have two). If you know of a faculty member who would be great for the job, email sracuff@udel.edu

DUES are $10/semester and payable ASAP to Bill Decker.

AZ WEBPAGE - If you're interested in helping with the webpage, contact Laura Casillas (ivelisse@udel.edu) or Sarah Acuff (sracuff@udel.edu).

September 24, 2001

Officers Meeting:

  • We discussed the purposes of the attendance policies. They are not meant to be intimidating but rather to make our organization function to its full potential.
  • We need an up-to-date Student Member Report--(National's List)
  • The AGCC club report. They need our information. Joanna will take care of that. Some issues regarding funding were discussed.
  • UD will not fund food for any open meetings that isn't cattered. However we may have closed meetings were we provide our own food as long as it is not delivered to us. Alchohol, stationery, safety equipment and worship services among others, will not be funded by the University.
  • Possible costs comming up:
    • A food heating device for our pig roast
    • A new cabinet for our storage (would need to talk to administration about location, etc.)

  • Ideas for the Ag Carnival (October 20th 12:00-4:00pm) were taken and discussed. Among the egg toss, pie toss, item list relay and chicken catching, yes chicken catching, we decided to do the item list relay. Teams need to come up with items from the list that they may or may not have on them collectively.
  • Web Page is up and running. Check the latest minutes or other events. It is still under construction. We hope to have Farm Tour, Pledging and other information available on it as soon as we can.
  • Farm tours: Still need help. Keep up with Joanna's emails and let her know if you can help. She still needs to hear from Scott regarding particular tour times and schools. If anyone you know is interested in bringing a group inf or a tour have them contact Nancy Lynam or Scott Hopkins.
  • Our next meeting: We will be meeting in the parking lot behim Townsend Hall and making corn shocks. These will help decorate the farm for the hay rides in october.
  • Socials Events:
    • We'll be planning for two separate events of a dinner and another of a dance or dancing

22 October 2001
Minutes of Officers' Meeting -

Attendance: S. Acuff, Z. Acuff, J. Wagner, I. LaJoie, B. Decker, C. Keil, A. Howey, J. Bowman, L. Csoboth, T. Harrell

Dues are due! Get your $10 to Bill Decker ASAP.

We still need to get checks to Animal Science Club for the hayride ($100) and to Sarah Acuff for Ag Carnival registration ($5)

Dr. Jake Bowman, Entomology and Applied Ecology, is our new advisor.

Anyone doing publicity - remember not to tape anything to the doors (painted area or glass) in Townsend Hall.

Isabelle pointed out at the Ag Carnival that one of our reasons for being is to provide service to agriculture and the College. Some ideas that have been proposed: +Cleaning up an area of Webb Farm Woods that is (mis)used for paintballing +Tree Planting on the farm with Wildlife Conservation Club - Saturday 27 October 2001 - 9am-12noon - see Andrea Howey for more info +Next fall, we have an opportunity to help in researching an endangered moth species in Hickory Run State Park in Pennsylvania. We'd camp over weekend and have a big ol' time! Let Dr. Keil know if you're interested.

AgCC wants the Ag Clubs to organize Ag Day this year. There was some heated discussion at the AgCC meeting regarding club size vs. responsibilties. As it stands now, details will continue to be ironed out...

AgCC is promoting college-wide social events this year.

First up is a cookout hosted by AGR - 4 November 2001 at 4pm on the farm.

Ag Carnival was great! AZ took fourth place, helped along greatly by Dr Keil's excellent showing in the pie-eating contest!

Denise Brijbasi will be joining this semester's pledge class - total number of pledges is now 12.

We assigned bigs/littles at the general meeting - contact the pledgemasters (Laura Csoboth, Tara Harrell, Andrea Howey) for more information.

Dr. Keil has a source for _big_ coloring books featuring Ag E. Bear - this might be a potential fundraiser for Ag Day.

Minutes of General Meeting -

Attendance: S. Acuff, Z. Acuff, J. Wagner, I. LaJoie, B. Decker, C. Keil,
A. Howey, J. Bowman, L. Csoboth, T. Harrell, T. Anderson, S. Eggleston, J.
Sapp, P. Reiver, A. Holland, S. Kwan, D. Vater

Dr. Jake Bowman, Entomology and Applied Ecology, is our new second faculty advisor. Welcome!

Ag Carnival was great, and even though we had the smallest team, we took
fourth place! Big thanks to Dr. Keil for being such a good sport!

Farm Tour Cleanings are going well - keep an eye out for an email
regarding the end of the cleaning schedule.

Farm Tours are also going well. We've had two so far - our next one is
Wednesday 24 October at 9:30. Sam Kwan is leading the tour - if you can
help out, please do! It's not hard at all to do and more hands make light
work!

Pledging Update:
We have 12 pledges this semester. At the meeting, we volunteered/assigned
bigs and littles - contact the pledgemasters (Laura Cs., Tara, Andrea) for
more info. Bigs/Littles starts now and runs until initiation (19 November)
and involves sending your Little notes, cards, _small_ gifts, etc. in
order to welcome the pledges and to get to know them better. Items can be
sent through the pledgemasters to retain anonimity. If you volunteered to
be a Big, please carry through with it!

Initiation this semester will be at 8pm 19 November in the Fishbowl (223
TNS). Current members please report at 7pm, officers at 6:30pm.
******this may change due to the fact that not all members can be there on
monday nights.  it may be  moved to sunday the 17th.  watch emails for
updates!*********

We will get t-shirts again this semester and will give the pledges free
shirts as their gift from AZ. Andrea Howey is handling the ordering of the
shirts - right now, they'll be dark blue with yellow print, your choice of
short or long sleeves. On the front will be the AZ crest and the words
'Alpha Zeta'. On the back, we'll have "Co-ed Naked Farming: We do it in
the soil" over a backgrounded AZ. Perfect as Christmas gifts - buy some
for your whole family! :-)

Pledge meetings are Sunday nights at 8:30pm in Perkins.
Make sure to come out to the meeting on 4 November to sign pledge paddles!

Peter Z Acuff
