Amnesty
International is a worldwide human rights organization working
for freedom for prisoners of conscience, fair and prompt trials
for all political prisoners, an end to 'disappearances' and extrajudicial
executions, and an end to torture and executions in all cases.
Amnesty
was founded in Great Britain in 1961, and today has over one million
members, with about 300,000 in the United States. The University
of Delaware chapter, founded around 1991, is one of more than
1,500 AI college and high school groups in the USA.
