DCON Recap 2008
During the weekend of February 15, 2008, UDCKI traveled the 2 hours to Fairfax, Virginia for the 48th Annual Capital District Convention. The decorations of the event and the attire of the district officers nicely matched the Greek theme, "An Odyssey of Service". Circle K'ers enjoyed the magic show and enjoyed watching fellow Circle K'ers levitate and almost have their hands chopped off. They finished the night with karaoke, where UDCKI blew the room away by belting out tunes of various movies, broadway shows, and old school pop.
The next day, Saturday, February 16, 2008, Circle K'ers started the morning off with their first workshops and roundtables. After the first set of workshops Circle K'ers participated in Caucuses where they listened to the candidates for the new District Board give their speeches. Workshops continued until the special Kiwanis Lunch started where UDCKI had the priviledge of sitting with the Governor and first Lady of Capital District Kiwanis. Another round of workshops and the first House of Delegates took place, and then Circle K'ers headed to the service project. They created coloring books to go into the Chemo bags which were to be sent to children battling cancer. All the events of the long day led Circle K'ers to the Presidents Dinner and Ball where UDCKI was awarded several awards, which included: 3rd Place Scrapbook, 3rd Place Website, 4 King Crabs (Corey Miller, Katie Monahan, Allison Jervis, and Rachel Laufer), Early Bird Dues, and 3rd Place Club Achievement. The night ended with the dance where everyone enjoyed themselves.
On Sunday, February 17, 2008, Circle K'ers went to Closing Ceremonies and were presented with the new District Board. After the Closing Session, UDCKI headed back to UD to catch up sleep lost, do work, and to reflect upon another great District Convention.
