Men's Crew Races at 2008 Navy Day Regatta
The University of Delaware Men's Crew competed at the 2008 Navy Day Regatta Saturday October 11th on the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia, PA. The team entered eight boats into the regatta, racing in the men's freshman/novice college eight+, Men's JV College Eight+, Men's Lightweight College Eight+, and Men's College Eight+.
Racing started with five Delaware freshman/novice boats competing in a single event. UD placed 13th (15:26.00), 15th (15:31.40), 16th (15:33.10), 17th (15:42.20), and 20th (15:56.30) out of a total 21 boats. Set in even boats, the novice rowers showed great promise for the races to come.
Later in the afternoon, the JV boat raced in the Men's JV College Eight+. This was a mixed boat made up of a heavyweight bow four and lightweight stern four. The Blue Hens (14:45.00) placed 7th, less than four seconds behind Rutgers and over six seconds ahead of Philadelphia University. The United States Naval Academy (13:47.40) placed first in this event.
The next race was the Men's Lightweight College Eight+ event. The Delaware lightweights (13.48.30) placed fourth in this event behind Georgetown (13:39.10), UPenn (13:38.70) and Navy (13.16.30).
UD's last race of the day was in the Men's College Eight+ event. The varsity heavyweight's eight+ and lightweight eight+ competed in this race. The lights (14:14.20) finished 12th in place. The heavyweights (13:53.40) placed fifth, over five seconds ahead of 2008 Dad Vail's second place Colgate.
