Delaware Crew Races at 2009 Murphy Cup Regatta
On Saturday, March 28th, the University of Delaware Men’s Crew traveled to Philadelphia to compete in the 2009 Murphy Cup Regatta.
In Delaware’s first race of the day, the freshman/novice lightweight 8+ earned first in their heat with a time of 6:18.9, over six seconds ahead of second place Army (6:24.96). Later in the afternoon, they finished second in their final with a time of 6:12.68, only 2.51 seconds behind UPenn (6:10.17).
Despite their second place finish in their heat, the freshman/novice heavyweight 8+ did not move on to the Men’s Novice 8+ final.
In the Men’s Varsity 4+ heat, UD (7:20.00) placed third behind Duquesne (7:09.04) and Pittsburgh (7:00.11), but did not move on to the final event.
The Delaware varsity 2- placed first in their heat with a time of 7:50.32, over 24 seconds ahead of second place Fairfield (8:14.88). In the final, the pair crossed the line in fourth place with a time of 7:52.42.
In the Men’s JV 8+ heat, Delaware (6:36.96) placed fourth. They did not advance to the final event.
In the Men’s Varsity 8+ heat, the Delaware lightweight 8+ (6:00.74) crossed the line third, only about three seconds behind first place Loyola (5:57.48) and second place Bucknell (5:57.77). The heavyweight 8+ (6:03.27) finished fifth in this heat, less than one second behind fourth place St. Josephs University (6:03.07). In the final, the heavyweight 8+ finished fourth with a time of 6:05.52, only half a second behind St. Joseph’s University (6:05.02). The lightweight 8+ finished fifth with a time of 6:05.52.
