About DRDC
|
| Founded in the early 1990s, the Delaware
Repertory Dance Company has established itself as the leading dance
company at the University of Delaware. With over 100 members, male and
female, we are an eclectic group of dancers with a wide array of talent
ranging from tap, ballet, and jazz, to lyrical, hip-hop, and modern. We
are 100% student run; our classes are student taught, dances are
student choreographed, and our spring show is student produced (with
some help from the wonderful guys at Mitchell Hall). We participate in
numerous on campus events and are often invited to dance in other
performing events such as the UDance, Blue and Gold Days, ONE and ISA Fashion Show.
Classes
|
| In the fall, DRDC holds open classes in
all
disciplines and at all dance levels from beginning to advanced. Classes
are typically held weeknights (see Calendar) and anyone is welcome to
teach or attend. If you are interested in teaching a class, contact Kathy at rooty@udel.edu

Choreography
|
| Our Spring Performance is choreographed
entirely by students. Anyone willing and able is encouraged to
choreograph, including freshman. For your piece to be eligible,
choreographers must attend a mandatory Choreographer's Workshop.
Following the workshop, choreographers will audition their piece in
front of the Executive Board, who decides which pieces will be
showcased in the Spring Show.

Auditions
|
|
We will hold open auditions for our annual
spring performance. Anyone is welcome to audition provided they have
paid their fall dues (which can be payable the day of auditions).
Unlike other companies, dancers don't try out to be in the company as a
whole, rather they audition for each specific dance they would like to
participate in come spring. This gives each choreographer freedom to
choose the dancers they would like according to technical ability,
style, stage presence, etc. for their specific piece. The show
typically consists of 20 numbers, of which dancers are allowed to be in
a maximum of four. The results of auditions are usually posted
following Thanksgiving break, at which time the dancer confirms that he
or she will be participating in that dance. Dancers are expected to
commit at least one hour of rehearsal time per week per dance during
the spring semester. Please dress in dance attire, bring all your dance
shoes, and plenty of water!
