Message from
the Pastor
Hi friends,
Wow: it’s August already. And it’s hot! I hope you’ve had a great summer. And I hope you’re ready to enjoy another three weeks (almost) of it before we have to (Do I hear shouts of excitement? Groans of anguish? Both?) come back to a new academic year.
One of the things wonderful about summer is space: the clutter that accumulated during the last year falls away; we begin to get a sense of who we are apart from the pressures that friends and clubs and classes and other commitments put on us. We feel like we can breathe again. That’s a good thing to have happen!
But a wise person said once that we really find out who we are, not on a desert island, but in community. In fact, he said, we are created, not to be alone, but for community: “A person alone is no person at all.” Here’s how the poet e.e. cummings put it: “I am through you so I.” Think about that one!
So the community that is Lutheran Campus Ministry at the
What has not changed is the welcome in Jesus’s name: the one who invites you and your friends all to a community of fullness and freedom and service of God, of a great and large community, and of one another. Yes, it’s hot! But the AC will be on in Pauls’ Chapel. And it will be good to see you all! Welcome back.
God’s Peace and Power,
Pastor Bruce Allen Heggen

Welcome Back
Welcome
(or in many cases, welcome back!) to UD!
I hope everyone had a relaxing and enjoyable summer. The board is so excited for another great
year of Lutheran Campus Ministries.
We're sure it's going to be a year full of fun and fellowship!
With
the start of any semester comes a whole new group of students -- freshmen and
upperclassmen alike -- as well as new leadership for many on-campus
organizations. LCM is no exception. We have a brand new board this semester and
we're all anxious to get started in our positions!
My
name is Kate Hartman. I'm a senior
Elementary Education major from Reading, Pennsylvania, and will be serving as
President of LCM for the fall semester.
This is a new position on the board for me but I'm excited for the
challenge. LCM has played a huge role in
my college experience and I hope to share it with many more people.
In
addition to President, the LCM board consists of Vice President (Jess
Hollandsworth), Secretary (Danielle Swanson), Treasurer (Greg Minerowicz),
Member-At-Large (Marissa Gilinsky), as well as three Peer Ministers (Service-
Leah Colley; Outreach- Kristy Kassinger; Fellowship- Danielle Swanson). We're all active members in LCM and are
available if you ever have any questions or concerns. In next month's
newsletter, each of these board members will be introducing themselves to
you. We all come from different states
and backgrounds and are involved in a wide variety of activities and majors on
campus.
Please
don't hesitate to contact us. Contact information is listed below. Like I said
earlier, the board wants this to be a great year and we're here to make sure
that that happens for everyone.
I
hope to hear from you or see you around the chapel, and again, welcome back to
campus!

Service
Spot Please
contact Leah Colley at lcolley@udel.edu if you are interested in helping
out with Fellowship in Serving the Hungry (FISH) and any other service
projects. Another
semester has just begun, and many service opportunities are coming with
it. A huge thanks goes out to everyone who helped out with Fellowship In
Serving the Hungry (FISH) this summer. We wouldn’t be able to continue
FISH during the summer months without your help. The next distribution
will be September 18. Throughout
this semester, LCM will have optional offerings during Tuesday night
worship. We would like to ask you to consider bringing non-perishable
items to be used to FISH. Of course, any non-perishable item is fantastic,
but we’ll provide some suggestions throughout the year. Any monetary
donations will also be put toward FISH groceries.
