2007-2008 Officers

President

Kristen Riley

I am currently a Junior Bachelor of Science in Psychology in the Honors Program, with Cognitive Science and Spanish minors. In addition, I am currently a Psychology Peer Advisor, with training and experience with the psychology curriculum and knowledge of research, graduate, and job opportunities. Recently, in this role, I composed a Psychology Career Panel, and have made many important networking connections through this process that would be beneficial to share with the members of Psi Chi. Also, I have been a leader in student organizations: Secretary in RCC and GHCC Student Community Councils, I am a member of NRHH, the "Top 1 percent of Leaders on Campus," am a graduate assistant in Dale Carnegie Leadership Training Programs, and am taking a few leadership classes here at UD. I believe that I will create an environment for Psi Chi which fosters creativity and inspires group members to enhance their learning in the field of psychology by being actively involved in volunteer and research opportunities.

Vice President

Elizabeth Kurban

I am a junior Psychology major with a minor in Cognitive Science and Educational Studies. I also JUST applied for the 5-year grad-school program offered by the Cognitive Science Department, so if all goes well I'll be a double major working on my Masters, with an extra year at UD! Currently I'm a member of the Chi Omega sorority, and next fall I'll be a LIFE Peer Mentor for the FYE classes. I'm definitely excited about being a member of Psi Chi because as a junior, I've been looking for ways to become more involved with my major, and take on a greater leadership position. I am very responsible, hard-working, organized, great with time management, and very understanding of others. I believe Psi Chi can be a great Chapter at UD: become more involved and well-known, so others can have the opportunity to become a part of it. I love psychology, I'm proud to be a psych major AND a new member of Psi Chi.

Secretary

Traci Ritterband

I am a junior psychology major, with minors in disability studies and educational studies.  Currently, I am in the honors program and maintain a 3.8 GPA.  I believe that this shows that I am hardworking, focused, and dedicated.  Furthermore, I am reliable, neat, and organized- all qualities that the position of secretary necessitates.  In terms of community work, I have tutored first-grade students at the Alison school for two semesters, and I volunteer weekly at the Mary Campbell Center in Wilmington with severely disabled adults.  Over this past winter break, I participated in the Hillel Alternative Winter Break program rebuilding homes destroyed by Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans. At the University of Delaware I am a member of the Alpha Lambda Delta honor society, UBuddies, and the psychology club.  Additionally, I have done independent research under Christine Ohannessian with the Adolescent Adjustment project over the past semester.  Because of my wide range of experiences, I will bring new and creative ideas to the chapter.  I have learned time management skills due to past obligations, and I am confident that I can give the position the time and energy that it deserves.  As a member of the executive board, I would strive to create a strong sense of community among psychology students.  Furthermore, I will ensure that all members of Psi Chi are informed about various opportunities in psychology including undergraduate research, joining the psychology club, and attending panels on graduate school or career options.  I understand the requirements of the position of secretary, and I believe that I am capable of fulfilling them.  I am very excited to be a new member of Psi Chi and I would like the opportunity to show that I will be highly involved in the chapter.

Treasurer

Amanda Skoranski

I am dedicated, trustworthy, reliable and pretty good with numbers.  I worked at a small real estate business last year for which I balanced checkbooks and handled paperwork involving cash and check transactions.  I definitely feel that I would be able to handle the job.  I am a senior neuroscience major and I am currently working on a thesis involving EEG measurements.  I'm also in the process of forming a new student organization on campus called the Student Illusionist Alliance centered around magic tricks which I'm very excited about.

Faculty Advisor

Amy Griffin

As the newest member of the Psychology department faculty, I am delighted to be the new Psi Chi faculty advisor.

After completing my Ph.D. at Miami University (Ohio), I received funding from the National Institutes of Health for a postdoctoral fellowship at Boston University, where I did research on the neural correlates of memory with Howard Eichenbaum and Michael Hasselmo. Since coming to UD, I have continued this line of research. I am particularly interested in the ways in which brain structures interact to allow new information to be incorporated into established behavioral patterns. You can read more about my research here: http://griffinlab.psych.udel.edu/
