Research Interests: Physical chemistry, energetics and dynamics of gas phase ions, mass spectrometry, Fourier transform mass spectrometry (FTMS), application of FTMS to the study of reactions of gas phase ions-particularly transition metal ions. Characterization of condensed phase reaction mechanisms from the study of gas phase ion molecule reactions.
Major Instruments: (1) FTMS 2000 (Finnigan FTMS, Madison, WI) Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance mass spectrometer with 3T magnet, dual cell, autoprobe and IR laser for LDI, and Odyssey data system. Prototype external source. (2) BioApex 70e (Bruker Instruments, Billerica, MA) Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance mass spectrometer with 7T shielded magnet, external source, ESI and MALDI sources, infinity cell.
