Presentations / Workshops Delivered

In the past 3 years I have planned and delivered over 150 workshops/presentations. I have included topics in the list below that I have presented multiple times for different audiences. The materials were updated to reflect examples and activities that would be effective for each new audience.

General Instructional Strategies
Topic Description
Differentiated Instruction Participants apply strategies and procedures for differentiating content, process, or products for students by readiness levels, interest, or learning style. Technology resources are utilized.
Data Driven Decision Making Participants analyze data to inform instructional decisions from planning lesson content to flexible grouping strategies to assessment. Technology use is applied.
Performance-Based Assessment Participants are supported in the development of complex and interesting problems that can be used in a student-centered classroom. The infusion of technology is modeled and practiced.
Student-centered classroom management techniques Participants practice techniques that can facilitate managing students in a student-centered classroom. When teachers have students working in flexible groups, classroom management techniques can make the difference between a classroom that is just noisy and one in which the hum of productive activity prevails.
Structuring Internet Experiences for Students Interesting and interactive websites can appeal to different learning styles and multiple intelligences. When you ask students to use a website, how can you design the assignment so that students meet the lesson objectives? Participants  learn different formats for structuring web activities.
Developing Strategies that Promote Critical Thinking “Challenging students to think critically encourages a process of reflecting upon meaning, offering evidence and reasoning, and forming judgments about facts.”  Participants discuss specific strategies (graphic organizers, cues, and questioning) that promote critical thinking.  Teachers develop activities that use the strategies discussed with a focus on warm up and closure tasks.
Using Concept Maps to Help Students Construct Meaning The use and construction of concept maps in various stages of student learning can help students achieve.  In this workshop teachers explore using concept maps as advance organizers, to construct meaning from text, to understand concepts and processes, and as a pre-writing tool.  Technology tools are modeled.
