Homework Notes
Just a note to explain the
homework for the year. A math sheet will come home each evening from
Monday - Thursday. The homework will be the backside or side B of
a sheet done in class that day. If you have questions about how the
assignment is to be completed, just check side A that we have worked on
in class. Side B will be problems of a similar nature to be completed
in the same manner as side A.
Your child will also receive a spelling list with 5 word wall words, 5 commonly used words from second grade writing and reading, and 5 challenge words. Your child needs to spend about 10-15 minutes each night reviewing these 15 words. The children may practice these words in any manner that works for them. Write them down, practice saying them orally, play a game with the words. There is no written homework for this activity. There will be a spelling test on Friday, which will consist of 2 sentences containing words from the weekly list and previous lists as well.
You should also spend 15 minutes or so reading to or with your child. You may record any books read by your child on a sheet of paper and return it on Friday.
Your child will also have a journal to write in each evening. Write about daily events or a topic chosen by your child. Students might also like to write stories using their spelling words. I will collect their journal each Friday and will return them on Monday for the next week's writing. This journal will be part of their assessment each marking period.
The only assignment turned in daily is the math sheet. That is to be completed each evening and returned on the following day for your child to receive credit for the activity. The children will earn ALPHA Bits to be spent at the math store each marking period. If your child is absent or ill, an assignment may be turned in late and still receive credit. If a week passes without math homework being turned in I will be calling to see if you or your child has questions or concerns.
I hope this answers any questions you might have
and helped to make your homework time together a rewarding experience and
not a time of stress! Any other questions please feel free to contact
me!
