My Story
I was born on the 24 th of April
in 1951. My parents named me Lynne Marie Adams and brought me home
from the hospital in Oxford, Pa. I had an older sister named
Sharon who played with me and helped take care of me. I lived in
Pa. for 10 months. Just before my first birthday my family moved
to Tuckerton, N.J.
I lived in Tuckerton for 22 years.
I went to school in a tiny 4 room schoolhouse in Little Egg Harbor Township.
There were 12 kids in my Kindergarten class and 9 in the first grade.
We all sat in the same room to do our studies. The Kindergarten sat
on the right side of the room and the first grade was on the left
side. We went to school all day and we didn't have any nap time at
all! I learned to read and write in Kindergarten and I loved school.
I played school everyday at home and already I knew I wanted to be a teacher.
I finally got to go to a big school
when I was in seventh grade. I went to Southern Regional High School
in Manahawkin, N.J. I can remember the long ride to school each day.
I caught the bus at 6:55 AM and got home between 3:30 and 5:30 each day.
My sister and I had a few friends
to play with in our neighborhood. There were 2 girls her age and
7 boys my age. I was a Tomboy! I loved to play baseball and
football and I was the neighborhood pitcher for the boy's practices.
I played ball until I got hit in the eye and decided to stick with volleyball
and softball instead.
My best friend was a girl named Mary.
We met in school when we were in the 7th grade. I had lots of cousins
to play with too. In fact, I have 52 first cousins in all!
My grandparents lived just down the street and we used to walk the 1 1/2
miles to their houses to visit every weekend. Can you imagine this?
My family had no TV and no car until I was in 5th grade! We got our
first car then and our first TV when I was 12 years old!
I always loved to read and play games
and that's how my sister and I passed the time at night. My father
and mother still live in Tuckerton and I still go back every month to see
them and to visit. My sister lives in Virginia and I go to see her
and my niece and nephew every summer.
I went to college in N.J. and graduated
and met Mr. Bloom. We got married in 1974 and moved to Delaware.
Our first daughter, Jodi, was born in 1977 and Christine was born in 1978.
Both of the girls are out of high school now and attended the University
of Delaware. Jodi is now a teacher in Oxford, PA. Where I was
born! Christine is in graudate school studying to become a zoo or aquarium
keeper or work in genetics research after graduation. I also graduated
from the University of Delaware in 2000 with a Masters of Instruction.
I like to take care of our horse and read
and make craft projects in my free time. I also collect thimbles!
I have over 1500 thimbles in my collection now! I also love to watch
football and my favorite team is the Miami Dolphins! I also love
to go to the Blue Hen games at the university each Saturday. I still
love to read and listen to music, especially if Christine is playing the
music with the University band!
Last summer I got to visit Ireland,
my mother's homeland. This year we traveled to Germany and spent 2 weeks
on a cruise down the Rivers and canals of Germany and Amsterdam. When I
retire from teaching I want to travel all over the world and have lots
of fun!
