Everyone recognizes that financial situation (funding from agencies) is getting severe every year.  Our group is also no exception, and each student in our group is required to have own financial source.  Our Plant and Soil Dept. has huge farm field, and we started growing vegetables to support our research.  People who make more money by selling those vegetables can perform expensive experiments.  People with low profit have to recycle lab equipments, washing disposable test tubes and pipette tips are common.

This is my Japanese cucumber.  I have approx. 10 of this plants, and they have produced huge amount of cucumbers.  This cucumbers requires a lot of attention.  Cucumber beetles love this cukes.  I have kill million cucumber beetles. 

The left picture shows my sunflowers.  Most of them were knocked down by severe storm later.  The right picture shows my tomato plants.  I have 30 tomato plants, and they produce huge amount of fruits every week.  I am donating most of them to foodbank.  I think I will grow only 20 plants in next year.

This picture shows my cukes, bell pepers, and beans.  Bell pepers are not as productive as I have expected.  Seeds from walmart might be the problem.  I enjoy growing beans.  I will grow 2 beds of beans in next year, regular green beans and yellow pole beans.
