Living in Newark is quite expensive.  I lived in Fresno, CA where living cost is very cheaper than Newark.  I thought living in Davis, CA was expensive, but compared to Newark, Davis is cheaper to live.  I currently pay $350 for a room in 2 bedroom apartment.  I think this price is fair, not cheap nor expensive.  Good par is that the apartment is very close to campus.  It takes 15 min walking or 5 min riding bikes.  Bad part is that the room is very small and have to pay high utility cost.  Most apartment in Newark include water and heater in rent but not my place.  As a result, living cost in my place costs total $400 for spring and fall and $500 summer and winter, depending on roommates.

Generally speaking, you can rent decent room somewhere between $450 and $500 including utilities.  Of course, there are more expensive or cheaper places.  It depends on one's priority.  Classifies from UD news is the best place to look.
