I usually ride a bike to get school or office.  Newark is extremely bike unfriendly place.  There is not enough bike lanes.  Main Street does not have any bike lanes.  It is unconfortable to ride on this street.  Drivers usually do not care about bikers.  South College Ave. and Elkton Rd. has very narrow bike lanes, and buses and huge trailers drive this street with high speed.  You cannot epect drivers are nice to you.  I see a lot of people walking on campus.  I imagine they do not ride bikes because it is too dangerous.

Gas price is not expensive.  I guess average price is just a little bit above national average.  Many people, including students, drive cars.  One important thing about driving car is insurance.  Car insurance in DE is extremely expensive.  I used to pay $350 for a 6 month period in Davis, CA from Geico.  I had to pay $800 for the same kind of insurance in DE.  I swiched to Progressive and still pay $500 after taking defensive drivers course.  I heard that car insurance at MD is cheaper, and newark is 1-2 miles away from MD.  It might be reasonable to live in MD to save insurance cost.
